Grilled lamb chops with roasted garlic and fresh herbs at Cellini in NYC

Spent only a few days in Manhattan this week, but even during a short visit, there is time for some great food.  Teresa Beck, a regular visitor to New York, made plans for us to experience a taste of New York’s Italian cuisine at Cellini on 54th St. between Madison and Park.  Small restaurant, tables crowded together, low lights, the heavy fragrance of garlic wafting through the air, all male waiters who like like they are too busy to bother with one more customer.  Does that sound like a familiar scene?  It’s all part of the experience!  The food was divine, starting with the first morsel of bread – a roasted garlic stuffed foccaccia.  There were too many options on the menu, so Teresa and I decided to share a simple pasta starter – an angel hair pasta with a fresh marinara sauce topped with a few fresh basil leaves.  How can something this simple taste so good?  Adrian Adams also joined us on our culinary adventure and he started with a small Caesar salad and the butternut squash soup with lump crab.  Both received high marks from Adrian.  We all selected the grilled lamb chops with roasted garlic and fresh herbs for our entree.  Flavors were remarkable…tasty, fresh, moist and tender lamb!  One of many great Italian spots in Manhattan, but one that should be on the list for future visits!
